As part of the year-long Modesto 150 Anniversary celebration, Modesto Area Express (MAX) is honoring the history and achievements of public transportation in Modesto. March features parks and outdoor areas around Modesto. MAX is proud that residents have used public transit for decades to travel to and gather at our amazing outdoor destinations!
On September 19, 1927, City Transit Company launched the first public transit system in Modesto. The service was a privately owned enterprise with one bus that ran on a 30-minute schedule. The service was so popular, it soon added two additional 20-passenger buses to serve the entire City. MAX is sure several riders used the service to travel to parks and other outdoor locations!
