2023 Service Change - Connecting Communities on The S

StanRTA will launch comprehensive service changes on March 5, 2023, due to its Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA) findings from 2022. The changes will help provide transit equity across The S service area.

Route Description of Changes                                                                           
Route 10                  Partially Redesigned - No longer serves CSU Stanislaus but will continue to serve bus stops on Countryside and direct service to Turlock Transit Center.
Route 15

Partially Redesigned - Split into Route 29 (Modesto Transit Center to Ceres) and Route 15 (Ceres to Turlock). No longer serves CSU Stanislaus, Geer, and Golden State. Passengers will transfer to a Turlock Transit bus to reach the university and other destinations in Turlock.

Route 24 Partially Redesigned -  Empire to Riverbank via Creekwood, Claus, and Roselle. Eliminated Leg – Modesto Transit Center to Roselle/Orangeburg. (Served by Route 37)

Route 28 Discontinued - Route 28 and 41 have been combined into a new route, Route 48, which provides service to Salida, Gregori High School, Vintage Faire Mall along Sisk, and 9th in Modesto.
Route 29 Partially Redesigned -  Portion along 7th and Crows Landing reassigned to Route 42. Assumes portions of Route 15. Goes to Ceres Walmart mobility hub.

Route 33 Partially Redesigned -  Section between Modesto Transit Center up 9th to Coldwell is assigned to Route 48. Bi-directional service between Modesto Transit Center and Carpenter.
Route 36 Discontinued - Absorbed into other routes.
Route 37 Partially Redesigned - Traveling along Scenic instead of Yosemite to access Oakdale Rd, with new service to Roselle.
Route 38 Schedule Changes
Route 40 Partially Redesigned - Extended to include the retail shopping areas on the Las Palmas-Ward-Sperry loop on route.
Route 41 Discontinued - Route 28 and 41 have been combined into a new route, Route 48, which provides service to Salida, Gregori High School, Vintage Faire Mall along Sisk, and 9th in Modesto.
Route 42 Partially Redesigned - Realigned to cover Bystrum community, expand service on Whitmore, downtown Ceres, and to the Ceres Walmart mobility hub.
Route 44 Discontinued - Replaced by portions of Routes 42 and 47.
Route 45E   Partially Redesigned - Routes 45 E/W merged into a single route. Service terminates at the Turlock Transit Center. Passengers will transfer to a Turlock Transit bus to reach the university and other local destinations. Service to Gustine and the Patterson industrial areas discontinued. Realigned around the Las Palmas – Ward – Sperry loop to provide better shopping access.
Route 45W Partially Redesigned - Merged with 45E to create a single Route 45 (see above).
Route 47 NEW ROUTE - Modesto Transit Center to Ceres Walmart via SW Modesto to Hatch and Mitchell. Replaces portions of existing routes 36, 42, and 44.
Route 48 NEW ROUTE - Modesto Transit Center to Salida via 9th, Sisk, Dale, Kiernan, and Gregori High School. Replaces Routes 41 and 28.
Route 50 NEW ROUTE - Modesto Transit Center to Waterford via Yosemite through Empire. Formerly part of Route 61.
Route 60 Partially Redesigned - Reconfigured routing in the Cities of Oakdale and Riverbank. Additional bus stops added as noted on the route map.
Route 61 Partially Redesigned - Modesto Transit Center to Hughson via Ceres, and serving Ceres Walmart mobility hub.

 Schedule Changes
BART Pilot Project - The AM and PM Patterson BART buses will transfer passengers onto the Modesto BART bus at a stop near the convergence of Interstate 5 and Highway 132. The Modesto BART bus will proceed to Dublin BART. This pilot will last for one year or until ridership increases to a level justifying two buses travel to Dublin.

Sunday Bus Service Added

  • Sunday hourly bus service added to Routes 15, 24, 40, 45, 48, 50, 60, and 61.

60-Minute Service Frequency

  • Service frequency improved to every 60 minutes on Routes 40, 45, 50, 60, and 61. 

More Bus Stops and New Information Posts

  • Additional bus stops have been added to many routes to make transit easier to access.
  • Information posts will include a QR code to make it easier for riders to locate their bus and plan their trip with the Track the S app.

Bidirectional Routes, Timetables, and Timepoints

  • Many routes are almost exclusively bidirectional, going outbound and then turning around to return on the same path, with bus stops closely aligned on opposite sides of the street.
  • Timepoints on some routes have been reassigned to better reflect progress along a route.

Demand Response Service Changes 

ADA Paratransit services are not affected by the service changes.

The following changes to Demand Response Services are being made to improve on-time performance and ease of use. Don't hesitate to contact The S if you are affected by these changes and need assistance finding travel alternatives.

Shuttle Services Discontinued

  • Waterford/Modesto Shuttle running between Modesto, Empire, Oakdale, Waterford, Hickman, Hughson, and Ceres.
  • Turlock/Modesto Shuttle running between Modesto, Keyes, Turlock, and DenDAR Button_resizedair.
  • Eastside Shuttle running between Modesto, Oakdale, and Riverbank.

Newman Dial-A-Ride Discontinued

  • Curb-to-curb transportation to the general public in the communities of Newman, Patterson, Crows Landing, and parts of Gustine.
